map

hey everyone! so i decided to create this map that documents the places I went on my world trip-- sort of the time that I felt most like the "quote"
- so there's a flood of black (a pantone, i have yet to pick it, maybe a purplish black)
- the X'es are all embossed; the white X'es are paper, and the light grey are printed with metallic silver ink.
- the background text is just embossed, no ink, except for the -make much of time- which is printed with metallic silver ink.
So it will be very texturey, hopefully it will work without cracking the ink/paper?
let me know what you think!

quick edit

Hey guys,
quick edit to the piece, I changed the wing, I thought it looked too juvenile. And I made sure the type is readable when it's printed. Anyways my add ons could be:
Minimal: Just a thick UV varnish on the connections and buttefly guy, (Could also be emboss)
Not-so-Minimal: Emboss on background connections (or varnish), and yellow metallic foil on the letters.

More stuff to look at!
Here's what I've been working on. My concept is kind of inspired by vanitas and memento mori images. Y'know, those old still lifes that are full of skeletons and dying flowers and soap bubbles and hourglasses and are supposed to remind you that life is fleeting, and every moment is temporary.
My challenge to myself was to make this whimsical looking, not depressing, and to do it without any skulls (because skulls are one of my things that I use way too often). I started working with this idea of mostly mundane objects disappearing and becoming memories.
I may change some stuff around before this is finished, and I'm especially undecided about the colors. Which of these two do you prefer?
(I'm thinking of doing some sort of gloss/varnish/clear foil/shiny on the bubbles)

here it is... sort of

what I gots

Hey guys, I think i'm almost done the calendar piece, but I'm not sure what extra stuff I'll have yet. I've nixed the laser cutting idea, but I'm thinking I'm going to definitely have the background light blue stuff in either UV varnish, embossing, or maybe even a clear foil, something really subtle. I have a few ideas for the orange circles and text, but I'm thinking of either using a holographic foil on top of it, or printing 4C on silver foil, or replacing the Yellow with a metallic yellow pantone. Can the 4C be UV based inks? I like how the colours pop when you do that.
BTW, the butterfly is the chaos butterfly lol.

laser cutting?

I think I want to do something with laser cutting, don't know if that's possible but, and perhaps something with raised varnish or clear foil, or emboss.
Anyways, I think my idea is going to be based on the line "Nothing is more unlikely then right now", and I'm going to do something that has to do with connections/possibilities or something like that.

foiling? darn it. well, im also thinking about foiling, possibly silver though, or maybe some embossing instead, just to be different.
i watched a trailer for a movie called Act of God. it's a documentary about people who have been struck by lightning and the idea of the random occurence, why me, da da da da da... anyhoo, one guy says that post-lightning'd, his perception of reality was changed, so i'm kind of going with a theme of the epiphany, and/or new self-awareness, self-realization, change of perspective, etc., but as in a change for the better, so that "nothing is worth more than this day"... of new realization.
sounds okay? too... lofty? what's everyone else working on?
